@autohmae From what I see most are paramilitary, the have a band of brothers, a thin blue line against chaos attitude They train using military tactics, use military weapons, foster an us against them insular group think and the idea they are always just a second away from death. It is the reason they blow people away for saying they have a gun in their car.

@dwightlove3704 The police's first role in our system was to hunt down runaway slaves, it should not be surprising they continue step on those they are tasked to oppress. Keeping labor in line has always been the first roll or our police forces. Be is slave labor or later union. In the modern era they have branched out in dealing with domestic abuse, mental issues and a hundred others issues that would be better dealt with by deescalation then sending in a thug. Instead we send in trained trigger happy head breakers who start every single interaction in pants shitting fear for their own lives as per our paramilitary police doctrine. The cops most certainly saw those people as nails then, sadly not as much has changed as it should have.

@dwightlove3704 I have ... I am well aware of the nature and origin of law enforcement as well has how it has been both traditionally and more currently employed. Ps: When I used the word entitled in my original post I was not referring to anyone by race. I was talking about the powerful social class above us who live by a different set of rules. Cops defer to the powerful and rich and give them leeway and deference they give no normal citizen of any skin tone.

@LiftedBuddha It was illegal for him to public carry that weapon in Wisconsin as he is not the requisite 18 years old. If the cops were doing their job they would have ID'd the boy and taken that weapon before out of pants shitting fear her murdered some protesters.

@Joe Schofield Nonsense, the police are not the corner stone. Hard working Americans are. The police are faulty because they should be serving us and acting to protect the peace but instead have a mandate that puts them above the law and in a war zone mentality. The entire institution has to be rethought and reworked so it serves the all our interest not just those in authority and with privilege our police naturally defer to.

@autohmae I of course am describing our police as paramilitary not all police forces. I dislike the use of the one bad apples spin it is consistently poorly used. The saying about bad apples goes like this: "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch". With that in mind pointing out how there are bad apples is poorly thought out as a defense of police. By the adage it means the entire batch is spoiled.

@autohmae Bad apples unaddressed and not removed will ruin the whole bunch. That is a big part o of our problem and why other systems are better.

@joshuag3358 Burglary., arson, home invasion makes up a tiny percentage of all actives the police respond to. Even then they have terrible arrest rates on all those crimes and the guilty regularly get away Scott free. If your focus is to protect against those narrow concerns the police departments do not have to be nearly as big as they are. I personally would call the police for those the issues you listed of course. But it has come to light that if you are minority it might be as dangerous to call them as if you did not. They always assume anyone with a darker skin tone is guilty of some crime and is dangerous and more so a threat regardless of circumstances.
