They both symbolize failed ideologies that promoted overt bigoty and racial supremacy to prop up barbaric authoritarian regime's that sought power for an asserted elite and lost.

@jayrice8882 Of course they are two different regimes, they were centuries apart! People equate them as similar for the reasons I cited. In English, we regularly describe someone who betrays their country as a traitor. Kind of like if you did an armed rebellion to end the union, you would be a traitor to the country too. PS: California with its high rate of homelessness also has more people than most of the red states combined. California has the 4th biggest economy on the planet by itself. Get back to me when the 10 poorest have nothing states in the union are not all RED.

@X2LR8 They were given clemency and a pardon. They took up arms against the state, they by definition were traitorous. They needed a pardon because they were criminals.
