When you say "Volk"(German word, literally translates as "Folk", or "People") then the 'V' should be pronounced like an 'F'. Indeed, the 23rd and 24th letters of the German Alphabet, 'V' and 'W' are named thus: V = "Fau", W = Weh(pronounced Veh). The 'V' is sounded like an 'F' and the 'W' like a 'V'. The German Alphabet has 27 letters as there is an "Etszet"(like this: ß, looking like a fancy 'B') which follows the 'S'. To further illustrate the pronunciation of 'V' and "W' in German, take the name of the car, the Volkswagen, abbreviated to VW. We in the English-speaking countries naturally say Vee-Doubleyou but in Germany they say Fau-Veh. And while we've bastardised the full German name as Volkswagen, the German-speakers say it as Folksvagen! Wie soll Ich das Wißen? Ich hab’ Deutsch gelernt! How should I know that? I have learned German!
