@spino1i Those things are within his power to control and do something about. I understand if he's depressed and unmotivated/hard to figure out what to do, but consider there might be a selfish nature there. I can't see anyone with wisdom seeing his situation as hopeless and rather a choice, particularly if he says he wants to to escape responsibilities.. A family is that, but also more than an obligation. How we see things shapes how we treat them.

@twrcrew8852 We are born selfish, but are meant to be taught to be selfless and other selfish tendencies tempered away to make a better person. It is up to them when of age to go back on that. Trying to use selfish tendencies as some excuse or say it's natural is pure fallacy. No one values it when they see it or trust the person displaying it, even among others that are that way. I think it's natural for people that believe in nothing to end up selfish because nothing but a changing set of personal morals hinders them, but I avoid such people like the plague, but they are more visible in current culture as those traits are valued over virtues. Happiness is temporary by nature, joy is spiritual peace that can't be effected by circumstance. We should seek contentment, not gain, because you're right, it's impossible to obtain because want is never satisfied.

@mofo02 Happiness is by definition, temporary. Joy is what people need, but that's not obtainable through materialism.

@twrcrew8852 That was probably the worst rebuttal I've ever read. All I read were excuses and justification and theories for likely your own selfish nature. It's no doubt it's the most common one people give it to because it's easier and caters to vices. That still means nothing in what is objectively better and has net benefit. Doing good has no downside except it convicts those that do evil and they will find a way to make them pay for it. We know for fact that selfishness is the reason for every woe in the world and why people hate themselves and hate more they won't change it. Self-defense isn't selfish. It's protecting one self from harm. You're making a false equivalency. If you are saying they are selfless by standing there and taking it, a personal choice, that is simply choosing passivity. You try and boil down all things to only selfish benefit when we know that isn't the case when we have definitions and examples to the contrary. Because something is rare doesn't make it non-existent, it makes it more valuable. It is not what is the majority that matters, but the results; the means justify the end. You do wrong, everything looks wrong. You do good, you're conscious of what's wrong, but go against it. It may make you feel good, and some do it only for that reason, but that's not selflessness. You don't understand the definition if you think so. It is doing good without benefit to one self. There are three loves: Eros, Phileo and Agape. One is greater than the other two. You're welcome.

I'm not sure I understand. They will rather invest money into AI and robotics than simply raise wages in quicker timeframe and have those worker return, if not more? AI investment is not cheap, especially figuring out how to make it work. Plus, that is no better than having no workers as the elderly need a human connection.

@lililinda6947 Well, cultivate the land, and survive off of it, yes. Growing your own food is easier than hunting and not all culture hunt, but have cattle they slaughter if they so choose. I'm opposed to the idea we started as rock bangers. Our history shows our intelligence and you can't separate people that choose to live in caves from now or in the past to say what they were.

It seems strange considering the elderly are meant to be important in Japan, but it seems possibly a Western mindset or just modernization leads to putting them aside whereas it has been tradition in most cultures to look after them/have them live with. Most of Japan's population is going to be elderly at one point and I can see there not being enough staff then, yet now I wonder what will they do with them? Have it government run? That could be a problem. We see MAIDs in Canada euthanizing people and reports they trick some that don't understand what it is into signing for it. Where does the money go that could be given to caregivers? I'm sure there are many professions in entertainment or government that don't need huge salaries that could go without a fraction of it. That pretty much goes for every first world country. We pay the most important roles in society nothing while giving those that entertain us millions. It's pretty twisted. The solution is bring in immigrants that will work for less, but then how do they get by in such an economy other than live in poverty? Where are those that quit going if their field is crowded?
