  1. Retroactive taxes are possible, especially on companies. You should give the example of Vodafone and Cairn Energy in India. Pathetic overreach by the government. Even though a right-wing government is in power, they're still pursuing issues from the days of the left wing. Now, one more thing the government does is that when new rules are announced, they apply it to all the previous months of the ongoing financial year so you could be doing something perfectly legal and your entire tax situation could change one month before the next financial year when the government decides to apply the rule to the ongoing year.
