@mgronich948 "Yes it's true China is way behind ASML although I don't think it anywhere near 20 yrs." Yes it is not 20 yrs it is much much more... Asianometry is very biased in this regard and he will bever admit that China would need to start from scratch, China education sucks big time and they are trying to produce robots not freethinkers that you need to have if you want to catch up with ASML or Zeiss... And China comunists party simply hates freethinkers. Now they are simply trying to replicate the technology that was invented in the West and contrary to misguided believe of people writing comment here the fact that they are not able to produce 20 years old machines that are able to produce as many chips per hour as the old stuff sold by ASML is super important. What is the use of machine that is 30% or even 50% cheaper but its able to produce only 30% of the final product? You would need to use 3 of them and hire people for them and get only 90% of production capacity... this is not how economy works. Japan also love to produce human robots in schools and that is why Japan is not the leader anymore, Japan GDP growth is so low and they have this problem for a very very long time.
