@davidthomas9165 there is no self-assessment here in the United States, it's all done by the government for tax purposes and the banks for Lending purposes. Being in the UK and having a different system there I could understand you questioning it, but CNN knows better. So do the people doing the so-called "investigations" in New York.

Because there is no crime, it's always been political theater from the start. CNN is just taking advantage of your low IQ even bothering to report on it. Anyone who knows anything about real estate realizes that you don't get to tell the tax assessor what your property is worth, they evaluate it themselves. Same with the IRS. It's been a comical farce from day one and only the dumbest of the dumb believed it was a real investigation.

@DaveCM no, you are missing the point dumb dumb. Trump doesn't get to claim anything. Either a tax assessor or a property appraiser will set the value. Trump has nothing to do with it.

No, that's NOT how it works. Tax assessors evaluate all real estate values, not the owner. CNN just counts on the fact that Their audience has an extremely low IQ and doesn't question things.

@davidthomas9165 because you were a fool and you believed fake news. When you pay taxes, the government tax assessor determines the value of the property that you will be taxed on. You have no say in the matter. When you apply for a loan, the lending company has one of their appraisers determine the value of the property and how much money they will lend. I've worked in real estate lending for 23 years so I can assure you that this is how it works.

@maxpower92 I currently own a house and have owned over 15 different properties several of them commercial multi-unit. Taxes do not always get assessed every year. That's a fact.

@deanromanado5850 you can contest it but they have to agree to any contested value. They have the ultimate say. The lack of assessors is exactly why they only evaluate property values every several years, not every year. Property taxes are then adjusted accordingly.

@marymdavis3189 that is correct but when applying for loans the lender does the appraisal which is out of the hands of the borrower completely. No matter how much these morons want it to be true, there is no scenario where Trump has control over the stated value.
