  1. this is useless. if you start with the notion that usa, or anywhere, used to be a democracy, then nothing you say can be relied on. usa in particular, was explicitly designed to be an oligarchy at birth, and one in service to the rich. the structure remains the same, and sure enough, so does the economic distribution. no magic involved, all done publicly. sustained by lies, one of which is that 'rule by politicians is democracy, a new, improved version, done for you so you don't have to think.' it seems no one teaches actual history any more, and very possibly sustained lying by teachers has created a nation of ignorant idiots. but here is simple reality: 'democracy' comes from a greek phrase meaning 'the citizens rule.' it does not mean the politicians do it for you. you can tell a democracy - the activity of the state is directed by referendum and initiative. this happens in california, and a few other states, does not happen in the federal nation. why not? because madison sold his constitution to the constitutional convention, and set oligarchy in stone.
