last time i looked, military expense was more than half the disposable gummint budget. as a pension plan for warriors, young and old, it might pass. but they don't return any product to the national income. inflation is built in. there is no cure. rome had this problem too. the bread and circuses gradually ceased. easy to track rome, poor bastards had to diddle the copper/silver ratio in the denarius. usg has endless flexibility with paper dollars and electronic tenners. that may be why no one in usg is worried about climate catastrophe - they are expecting to use the collapse of civilization to disguise their looting of the economy.
