  1. there used to be funny stories told, about the last days of the louis 16 regime. voltaire made a career of it. the actual masters of the usa government are the faceless deep state. the nominal leaders are such low caliber people that they have made themselves irrelevant. but there's a thousand laughs there. only if you were smart enough to get out, 50 years ago, mind. if you are actually there, well, there's a chinese phrase which catches it: 'forced to laugh, while sobbing.'
