to be more precise, it is an elective aristocracy. functionally a plutocracy. and it has never been a democracy. there was no golden age, returning soldiers from ww2 demanded a better share of the cake, from the elite, and got cheap housing and education- but that was a gift, not a right. the people have never ruled the usa, and it appears they never will. too dim and/or too ignorant. but a dim and ignorant nation will be carrying water for china and india soon.
