this is just the restoration of the gilded age, and that is the glorification of wealth which madison aimed at in his discussion of the purpose of the constitution. there was a blip caused by the first collapse of the economic system in the 1930's, but ww2 saved the economy, and put usa on the path to fascist blend of money, militarism and jingoist de-education of the people.
it is clear to me, that the total lack of any discussion of the failure of the political system to deliver sustainable and equitable lives to the people of the usa [they are not citizens, only civilians] means progress has stopped, fdr's 'new deal' was the best attempt at civilization in the usa, and it fell far short of the necessary revolution.
america's current condition didn't start with reaganism, that was simply the restoration of the default condition planned by madison at the birth of the nation.
the path ahead is well known. economic failure will be blamed on evil enemies attack will be masked as retribution and ww3/last follows. but the grandees at the top of america may be sane enough to realize they will not survive nuclear gotterdammerung. homo sap may draw back, and the grandees content themselves with domination of a much-reduced nation. less like britain, more like russia.
