  1. the real lesson appears to be that americans are ill-educated and fearful always, of losing their employment. this was the implied intent, when the constitution was written, to empower the rich. the cure is establishing democracy, but it is out of reach of the frightened dimwits that plutocracy has cultivated in its national garden. worse still, the superficially aware talking heads have still not made the connection between the lack of democracy and the character of the people. no use telling fearful dimwits to stand up and take part in the direction of the nation. which is why lenin did stand up and say, 'can't wait for the potato heads to become philosophers, let's get started now.' there's been a few 'lenins' since then, with mixed results. mao would have to grit his teeth at the spectacle of state-directed capitalism in china, but he could console himself with the prospect of china as a world power, once again. revolution is a bloody business, at best. but the spectre of looming climate catastrophe demands a change of direction from human society. politicians are incapable of adequate response.
