  1. the democratic party stands for nothing beyond getting in office and profiting from it. in pursuit of this policy, it has backed slavery, jim crow and refusal to submit to constitutional amendment. the republican party has a better record, being consistently in favor of greed. neither party has any interest in establishing democracy, and the american people are too ignorant to demand democracy, or too satisfied with being in the favored demographics of the oligarchy. in any event, the nation remains at a level of social development best described as 'medieval.' the sporadic appearance of 'progressive' desires represents a small minority, and has had no effect on national policy since fdr. his reforms were small and mostly transitory, quite ineffectual, and recovery from the great depression was purely a product of ww2.

  2.  jo blo  fdr had conservative politicians for two terms, but thought wallace was necessary in 41. clearly progressives were a significant element in politics, up to the end of ww2. but i think it was skin deep. they flourished in poverty, were dropped in post-war prosperity.
