@sarahbarrett1247 Everyone not acting all surprised by the results would be a start

@sarahbarrett1247 Are you claiming that would have prevented the need for lockdown?

@sarahbarrett1247 So you're arguing, with hindsight, that the UK should have locked down sooner, harder, and for longer. That's a legitimate point of view. Not one I share. The cost, to be paid now, would have been a greater

@sarahbarrett1247 Now you're just being hysterical. The UK, like every other country in the world at that time, was scrambling for PPE. Getting it wherever it could. Often at any price. Even purchased a plane load from Turkey, god knows where it had come from, only to find out later it wasn't up to standard.

Also, its kinda hypocritical to say you don't care about the cost, only to then complain about the cost when the dust settles.

@sarahbarrett1247 Thats not what the experts said. The WHO itself warned against closing borders at the beginning. By the time the world woke up to the danger, it was already in Europe. Already here. The UK government also listened to the experts when it came to how to implement rules. They advised that people were more likely to follow the rules if they were seen as 'voluntary' rather than forced. Remember that female demonstrator being arrested for breaching those rules? Remember her face on the front covers of all the newspapers? That was what they didn't want. They didn't want focus on enforcement of the rules, rather than the reasons why those rules were in place. Because the UK is not China. It doesn't and never has had the ability to enforce such rules.

@sarahbarrett1247 You're right there. South Korea had experience with dealing with viruses from China. Because they were right next door. The rest of the world did not. But when China became wealthier, foreign travel for the Chinese became more of a thing.

Might have something to do with closing down the economy for 2 years?
