@brendonbewersdorf986 not quite up to the Bofors standard, but John Browning designed a 37mm AA gun for the US army. Originally clip fed, from the left side, it was modified to take chain link belts, and feed from either the right or the left. I proposed, on another page, that, given a proper water cooling system, the Browning gun could have been used in a quad mount very much like that used on the PomPom, instead of the USN trying to get he 1.1" working. Of the two, the Browning 37, and the Bofors, the Bofors is the better gun. I have my notes somewhere, but, iirc, it comes down to the Bofors having a slightly larger shell, and a higher ceiling. The US Army used the Browning gun well into 42, gradually replacing it as Bofors became available.

@philvanderlaan5942 even the best models of the time still show up. "The Enemy Below" uses a real DE, until the ramming scene. The difference is obvious. That being said, if all the shots of Salem were tightly framed, so you couldn't get an overall look at the ship it would help. Maybe not show the superfiring forward turrets, but only the aft turret, with a plywood shell on it to look like the German turret. The producers put plywood shells on the forward turrets of HMS Manxman in "Sailor of the King", and on the former location of the superfiring turret of USS Philip in "In Harm's Way", but they really didn't look quite right.

@ironmanhowes8200 sticks in my mind I have seen photos of both Kaga and Akagi with three decks, as originally built. Both were rebuilt in the 30s with a single deck.

@WALTERBROADDUS LOL at the oars. I enjoy the movie, but there are some jarring things. The heavy cruiser playing the Spee is one of them. If they had stayed on the quarterdeck, where you would only see one turret, and forgotten that bit of character's exposition trying to explain why it looks like a US cruiser, it would have been better. Is that the movie that shows the British cruisers barely making any headway when incoming shells splash near them? I can understand why the ships were moving so slowly, probably so they had plenty of time in camera frame near an explosive charge planted in the water to simulate the shell hit, but it looks so wrong. If someone was shooting at me, I would want to be a moving target, I mean MOVING, not going dead slow.

@WALTERBROADDUS unreal Skuhois? Didn't see the new movie. Didn't much care for the old one. Are we talking about things like the movie I saw where Luftwaffe planes were being played by P-51As? Can't remember now if that was "Action In The North Atlantic", or something else.
