Greece entered WWI, on the allied side, in mid 1917. If the Kilkis and Lemnos, former USS Mississippi and Idaho, squared off against the Yavuz, former SMS Goeben, how would it shake out? Yavuz had an 6-8kt speed advantage, and 10 guns vs the total of 8 of the Greek ships, but the American 12"/45s threw a heavier shell, with about the same range.

@leogazebo5290 against combined allied forces? Probably second best, especially after Italy came into the war, which is probably why the Austrian fleet was not terribly active. Ponder this possibility though: The landings at Gallipoli were April 25, 1915. Italy did not enter the war until May 23rd of 15, so allied naval forces couldn't use Brindisi before May 23rd, nor was the Otranto Barrage set up until after then. The only capital ships Turkey had to push back against the British invasion were the Goeben and two old pre-dreadnoughts. What if the Austrians made a major fleet movement down the Adriatic in early May, until intercepted by French units. In the resulting fur-ball, the three Tegetthoffs that were in commission at that time are detached and make for Turkey to reinforce the Goeben.
