@tgmccoy1556 I was reading about that a while back. The logging company bid was initially rejected, because the plan sounded nutty. Bids from conventional salvage companies were exorbitant. So, with nothing to lose, the Navy gave the logging company the contract, and they succeeded. Apparently, there are still traces of the wreckage of the Milwaukee visible on the beach. The USN had some pretty lurid groundings in those days. Everyone has heard of the Honda Point multiple grounding. I see Drac has the Tennessee class armored cruisers on his list to profile. The Tennessee was on a big stick waving exercise in the Dominican Republic, and was hit by a rogue wave while riding at anchor. The ship was driven up on the shore and wrecked. The Navy stripped off what it wanted and sold the wreck for scrap as it sat.
