  2. MUCH better place to serve than the open AA batteries on some ships on the bow, just before the lower of superfiring main turrets. But - as Drach pointed out in one of the Drydocks - these guns were placed in the hope, that your bucket does not have to fight torpedo boats/destroyers, other capital ships AND some aircraft all at once. So, when the main guns were fired, the guncrew could be sheltered somewhere under deck.
