it's more interesting how laws that have done this are considered enough for the wealthy and investors to favour us as far as they can, a shop or a flat is hardly the extent of investment, and it shows, london couldn't put on a show if it tried at present, londoners feel besieged i think and tourists don't stay long enough for their "spend' to count as investment

@StrawPerson-xq9ko folks go for a degree to pay off and a room to rent, that's hardly investment and growth for the country, and those that study to prosper economies want a vibrant academic space, not folks looking for more debt or a trip to bali

my interest is in going back to the places i remember, not to good memories, i can make more memories that are good in the places i remember

nice one mate
2
everyone has an opinion on london, even those who like "american candy"
2
true, but what is a house for these days? a family meal and a night in in front of the telly? people or folks don't live economically beneficial lives, it's cloistered and closeted for no reason, digital swords and furbies, not coffees and magazines!
2
i found growing up that bursts of civic activity brought people out, and kept people going, and kept people going out and socialising
2
covent garden is a very small space, and is useful and suitable for tourists, "london" as a location and destination needs investment over more square miles than one, it's important to spread it, not patchwork and hope it works!
2
not noticed any, i mean, i don't look that hard, but trouble is with covent garden is they don't make space for similar brands to move in, also, next door and if they try, cheaper ones get in, not all plush brands are plush
2
it's always better than the rest, but it tells you how bad here is
2
the ammount or level of investment doesn't justify it, for some reason that common sense approach of rebuild the core and set up units for people to occupy is nonsense, shops need to build themselves sometimes and have power to barter with local authorities, it's almost like the local authority is a landlord or a sheriff, acting out of its own pocket, but they don't want to, and people see the difference
2
@JudeTheYoutubePoopersubscribe significantly less involved, or has remote working changed that?
1
it's struggling, but maybe it's reinventing itself
1
these aren't boring, try a wimpy in the heyday, or a crap bookies

@@PolitiTrix-my6yw i would, but you did

marvel came and marvel conquered
1
the pandemic shouldn't have mattered, we can adapt to online shopping and making stuff up at home in the same way, it doesn't matter, but why stuff just goes here, i don't know
1
@MATTY110981 true, but why do business here if it only suits yourself?
1
london needs wealth not socialist luxuries
1
true, it's not like it's better doing it online, but we did it for a short while, where's the rush back? industry uses the internet to source, but i use my feet to shop!
1
post-capitalistic? greater european integration means great homogenisation, and anyway, if the coffee is great and the atmosphere is there, what does the exterior matter? dress differently, or just look at it as a place to sit and enjoy, it doesn't need to look like charles dickens to be clean, or english
1
yeah true, but there's no burden to buy, just go and have a look for god's sake, take an hour out to see it, and get back to life
1
@formxshape same all over i guess
1
underlying issues are human not necessarily economic or structural, look at the buildings and the structure and infrastructure, it's all there and it gets refreshed and updated, but how often are people "updated" and given a heads up on what business means now?
1
shopping districts from other nation would work, like a french retail street or a spanish quarter or a japanese row
1
that film was mostly about warmth of spirit and hospitality, london is best when it's at home, not in a hotel or a public park, where it's cold or austere
1
@malcolmmcphee2582 was it ever built up?
1
i would go for a few things, not all of it, people live there too
1
it's sad that shops of distinction have gone, but where are the degrees of distinction?
1
fads came in and went, and went, and nothing came back, or in
1
online businesses are great but smaller shops won't come back with smaller businesses still online, it doesn't help that someone sets up a shopify and dropships to hell and back
1
journey's direct to london from anywhere in the country should be more straightforward, changing at stations isn't always feasible, and it's a shame, as london is such a nice place
1
there are plenty of entrepreneurial ethnic minority shopkeepers and business owners who set up quickly and efficiently, what is the issue here? is it too edwardian?
1
by selling tesla? what the fucks the problem?
1
🤣 it makes no sense, the development doesn't indicate the rise in rent, though i don't complain about rent, i just wonder what it means for the area and if it's investment in its future, the question is who might be wanting to move in, cambridge is more introverted because it's research orientated
1
charity begins at home, it's rarely found in paris
1
remember central london is residential, not leisure, and pleasure, and its retail needs to reflect a vigorous approach to shopping that involves all the big brands, not the "big brand"
1
it's difficult to anticipate what businesses want to do, but "new" business is hard to understand now, as most are office-based and do tech and data etc., and otherwise its health and public service, so what's there to sell apart from hats and coffee?
1
northern places/constituencies is a difficult and contentious issue, my understanding was it's left alone to develop itself, but central government wants a grip on all large industry
1
brings up images of having places to sit in distinctive places to sit, fast food joints are like waiting in an airport terminal
1
where do you eat and drink every week?
