@atacenkbaslk3289 if someone isn't good at farming has to sell, that doesn't negatively effect national food security. That farm land doesn't go away. It's still right there for someone else to have a go.

Is it interfering with their lives? Or is it they are just sick of subsidising them?

@dominuslogik484 subsidising farmers actually costs the EU a lot of money, but there's a lot more. Subsidising an industry encourages and assists inefficient operators to continue in a market they capable of operating successfully in. It allows those less skilled farmers are occuping is producing less food than it would be in the hands of someone better. It feeds tax payer money into private enterprise for very little public benefit. Remember when a bad farmer is forced to sell up that land doesn't go away, it's there for someone to use. If the government rewards bad behaviour with special concessions you'll have a government budget that is 90% money for special interest groups.

@deutschermichel5807 as with the New Zealand example, it doesn't destroy the agricultural sector, it simply replaces inefficient businesses with efficient ones.

@ArkBlanc it's not bad for a country's economy or security. The farm land doesn't disappear, it will simply be used by another farm, probably one who is better at it. This will mean more food being produced. Also by getting rid of subsidies the government will have that money to spend on other things. It's a win for the country on both counts.

@Teutathis they compete through trade protection and subsidies. If they were competing through innovation they wouldn't need such help

@友利很开心的 out of all the "EU farmers can't compete because..." excuses I've ever read, this one might be my favourite.
