Which is the whole point, it was blown out of proportions, and was kind of a test run before the real Bullshit of the Millenium, which was the corona pandemic.

Ah, yes, by the very same logic that the terrible pandemic of 2019 was prevented because we were so-very-cautious about it and our wise governments told us to wear protective face coverings. (Until we all got infected with the omicron variant, at which point the bullshit became increasingly difficult to sell.)
