@vikkimcdonough6153 Your statement works only when the opposing machinery sets are completely and totally identical-mirror-images of each other. The setup also requires (I think) gearing to reverse the output rotations of one set of machinery to match the other. If you get this wrong, it doesn’t work, and the machinery production of the day was unable to get it 💯 right.

@lloydknighten5071 Between the 1880-90 period and 1905-10 period, the methods of producing warship-quality “stuff” and assembling it into something that resembled a warship improved ^immensely.* As an analog, compare the production of an automobile in 1910 to 1925. The 1925 automobile may have been larger and heavier than that of 1910, but would have been produced in far less time because of advancements in the “what” and the “how.”

@esmenhamaire6398 Crew training. It doesn’t take overly long to confirm that stuff works, or make it work if required. It takes much longer for the sailors aboard to be fully ready to go to sea, when doing so means being ready for war action at any time.
