Is it really that hard for car manufacturers to put in strong anti-car theft controls into the car to stop many of these thefts? Like how hard would it be to simply set the car software to ask you for a password that you have to enter before you start the car and if you get it wrong after X amount of chances you get locked out for 30 mins or an hour? That alone would probably stop a huge number of car thefts when the thief knows that the car won't stop without a password that will immobilize the car for a period of time. Or how about adding a fingerprint scanner the same as you have in smartphones? Scan your fingerprint to verify its you before the car will start. Seems like there's a ton of ways for car manufacturers to implement measures that would greatly reduce car thefts if they wanted to.
