I don't know enough about modelling or runway modelling, although I've seen androgynous looking runway models (as of recently, if my memory serves me correctly), but I wouldn't be surprised. Likewise, they--whoever they is--have been manipulating if not manufacturing the ideas of masculinity and femininity for decades, too. For instance, look at the progression of action figures and dolls, specifically Barbie dolls. The whole thing is pretty insane, if you think about it.
