Seems like Mendocino would make a great home base for you between the temps, beaches, trails and friendly vibe. Certainly is beautiful there. Also, are those new shoes fairly light weight? I'm considering a few different shoes for walking/workout/hiking. Did a really long hike several years back with not so great shoes and it took my feet more than a year to recover!

@StaticCamperVan I'm going to try them on first, but I think I will like them, too. I have a pair of Xero sandals that I enjoy very much. Wasn't much of a shoe wearer during my childhood and was accustomed to going without shoes indoors when I was living in Japan. I think all the barefootedness is responsible for my feet being slightly wide, so these shoes seem like they would be comfortable for me. We'll see!
