Not all of us have been nominated for Defense Secretary. As an officer in the Military (even National Guard) he would have been held to a higher standard. Allegations of misconduct or not, I'm not convinced a MAJOR in the National Guard has the experience managing at the scale Secretary of Defense is or in shaping a broad defense policy. Edit: Edited my personal, harmful opinion out.

@ibwonderful1 Then maybe he should stop making it so easy! He's the President (elect) of the Unites States nominating the decision makers and his advisors for our country! And it's not his first time doing this. Moral issues aside, Hegseth was only a Major in the National Guard. I'll thank him for his service, but it's not even a senior officer. He's done nothing in a civilian role to prepare him for this position. I understand everyone starts a new job underqualified, but he's not even close. I feel like these nominations are a mockery to the system. Dr. Janette Nesheiwat is the only one I've seen that's even shown the potential to grow into the position he's nominated them for. Maybe if he'd quit treating it like a joke, people would quit laughing.

@ibwonderful1 Okay, maybe the last part was over the line. He still has questionable morals and very limited experience to be Secretary of Defense. Is this really the best we can do for such an important position?

@AnnOno-i7m Thanks! Yes, I noticed that, and thank you for pointing it out publicly. Not convicted is not exactly the same thing as not guilty. He will have to go through a rigorous background investigation to get a top-level security clearance. "Not convicted" isn't really a great accomplishment here as allegations, even without convictions, can raise red flags. The allegations of financial misconduct for both Vets For Freedom and Concerned Veterans for America as well as the allegations of misconduct and intoxication will all come to light. Don't forget, he volunteered to provide security at the 2020 inauguration but was flagged as a "potential insider threat". He'll have to satisfactorily answer to all these allegations in the Senate confirmation hearings and be able to obtain top-level security clearance. All of that before we even consider the fact he was only a Major (not senior leadership) in the National Guard. Thanks for your service, Pete, but we'll pass on Defense Secretary.

@lukehelleksen68 But it is! Senate confirmation hearings will go through personal, financial, professional and criminal history. He'll have to be able to pass top-level security clearance. But that contest will be won or lost in Senate confirmation hearings, not here in You Tube comments.

@AmyW-m2p As a US Citizen, he is innocent until proven guilty, and thank him for his service to our country! As Secretary of Defense, he has to pass a rigorous background investigation and obtain top-level security clearance. It's a much higher bar and one or two allegations may not prevent him from those clearances, but he seems to be in the wrong place at a lot of wrong times.

@AmyW-m2p He left both of the Veteran's organizations he led under less than ideal circumstances. He was denied a volunteer position presumably around a white supremacist tattoo he has. Ultimately, it's not my reckoning that matters. That belongs to the Senate Judicial Committee.
