  128. I'm sorry, there's so much of this that is just wrong. FACTS: *: If you receive $1200/month in benefits now, you will receive $1200/month in benefits until you die. No cuts or changes change that. Raising the Full Retirement Age (FRA) to 72 would likely be grandfathered in like last time. There would be no change for people born 1960 and before, pro-rated for 1960-1975 and the FRA would be 72 for people born 1975 and later. Social Security is funded from payroll taxes, these funds go into the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) Trust Fund and Disability Insurance (DI) Trust Funds. They cannot be used for other purposes like defense spending. Defense spending comes from the federal government's discretionary budget which is funded by general tax revenue and borrowing. 'They' cannot simply move money from Entitlement programs which are Mandatory Spending accounts to Discretionary accounts like Defense. OPINION: Trump didn't do anything to Entitlement benefits last time in office even though it was one of the 3 largest contributors to raising the Federal Deficit (along with Defense spending and Tax Cuts). He doesn't seem interested in it now, probably because the funds are sequestered and any benefits would be longer than he'll be in office. I don't think he'll propose any changes himself, and probably not support any changes brought to him. He probably won't have much opposition to a string bi-partisan proposal, either. If they do raise the FRA, it is grandfathered in and the younger workers won't even notice it (I didn't when Reagan raised it from 65 to 67 in 1983). Raising the cap would be better solution, but could have worse long term consequences (The richer contributors would also be eligible to receive higher benefits and the Rich tend to afford better health care and live longer). The best way to 'fix' Social Security and other Entitlement benefits is to get the younger workforce working, earning and contributing through the current FICA taxes. We all knew this would be an issue when the boomers started retiring. The only thing that was really unexpected was how much health care costs have risen for Medicare and Medicaid. Maybe United Healthcare is to blame there. * Of course, these are laws and congress can change the laws to say anything they can all agree on. But it would take a lot of strong bi-partisan support to make the shocking changes described in this video.
