@Praveen India got independence not because of "Gandhian" non violence but because of INA bulk whose troops were British India Army soldiers who had surrendered to the Axis powers and several mutinies in the British India military immediately with the end of world war two. Most notable were the Bombay naval mutiny and mutinies in air force. This was compounded by the fact that 30 lakh Indian troops had returned to India after the 2nd world war. The British knew they could no longer hold on to India with the help of British India Army which is why they left India much earlier than they planned to.

@alani3992 and Sargent Major Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi of the South African British Army was parachuted to Congress, a creation of the British after the 1857 sepoy mutiny, by the British immediately before world war one in which "non violent" Gandhi was personally involved in the recruitment of 10 lakh Indian soldiers for the occupying British army. Gandhi was a British agent who favored violence by the colonizers on the natives while opposing violence by the natives on the European colonizers.

@northbynortheast5172 yes, Roosevelt was putting pressure on Churchill to dismantle the colonies with the end of world war two. It is fight for colonies that led to two world wars which willy nilly dragged in the United States.
