  1. Modi's BJP has partnered with separatist forces in NE which has led to reopening of old tensions. Ironically, both Meitei and Kukis are not natives of Manipur which used to be a Bengali kingdom. Meitei are Tai Chinese who are natives of Yunnan in China. And Kukis are Burmese. NE was invaded and occupied first by the Tai Chinese and later on it was the Burmese who occupied NE. East India Company liberated North East from Burma and returned to india but with majority Chinese and Burmese origin people who have never accepted themselves as Indians. This is the genesis of never ending insurgencies in NE and inter ethnic and racial conflicts. The first step towards peace is telling the true history of north east and stop passing off Chinese and Burmese origin people as SC, ST, OBC which has led to this tension in Manipur.
