India has a huge geographical disadvantage vis a vis China. China from Tibet and Xinjiang can hit nearly all major cities in north India and north east with conventional weapons but mainland China which is in the China's eastern coastal region is well outside the range of our conventional weapons. The only way India can hit eastern China is with cruise missiles carrying nuclear submarines aka SSGNs. India needs at least 10 SSGN to pose effective deterrence to China. SSBN can be used only in case of full-fledged nuclear war which is highly unlikely.

@amoghdhodapkar1338 have you factored in the cost of one such IRBM/ICBM?? They are used only as a last option as they are super expensive. Cruise missiles are not cheap either but they are far cheaper than Agni type IRBM and ICBM. Drones and loitering munitions are the cheapest but they can easily be shot down as we are seeing in Ukraine.
