  1. There was no Gujarat, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bengal in medieval times. There was also no India as a nation state prior to arrival of East India Company. The merchants of today's Gujarat in medieval times had little to no connect with today's Tamil Nadu or Bengal. Today's Gujarat only came into existence in 1950s with merger of few parts of Bombay presidency with several independent kingdoms whose subjects always considered themselves as a separate nation distinct from other people of the subcontinent.
