@SG You forget from day one Pakistan was bankrupt. It was never financially viable. East Pakistan before the 1958 coup in Pakistan had a GDP higher than West Pakistan. From late 60s West Pakistan GDP surpassed that of the East due to reasons which led to 1971 and break up of Pakistan. Even as late as 1970, more than 70% of Pakistan's foreign exchange used to come from the jute export from East. So, we shouldn't be surprised at Bangladesh overtaking Pakistani economy as undivided Bengal used to be the richest province in Mughal India due to textile trade.

@SG Military victory wasn't achieved in 13 days but over a 9 months civil war. India entered only in the last 13 days of a 9 months civil war. By October of 1971, the Pakistani troops were on the defensive and on the retreat as they were cut off from supplies whereas Mukti Bahini largely consisting of ex East Bengal Regiment and East Bengal Rifles were well supplied by both India and USSR. Besides this the west Pakistani troops from plains and deserts were completely ill equipped to fight in the wet paddy fields and riverine region of Bangladesh. American and French forces faced similar predicament in Vietnam. This is evident if you read Witness To Surrender written by Siddique Salik of Pakistan Army's ISPR.

@rohitsingh-gn4so ISPR is propaganda wing of Pakistan army but this book is quite objective although it is spoken from the biased perspective of West Pakistan.
