India's army still continues with the same structure of British India Army which was created by the British to protect them from the natives and not the other way around. India's borders will truly be defended when the locals and not people from foreign country or from different parts of the country completely unsuitable for local terrain are made to guard the border. 2 years military service needs to be compulsory for those living in border states. This way we don't need to maintain a large standing army and during times of war we can immediately have a large army right in the border. The Agnipath scheme is a right step in this direction and it further needs to be modeled on the lines of Israeli and Swiss army.
