  1. Because contrary to Anglo-American propaganda Hitler wasn't this evil madman unconstrained by public opinion or international diplomatic norms. He only wanted to attack Gibraltar if he got permission from the Spanish government. Similarly "why didn't he just invade the caucuses from Turkey", again because he wasn't successful in getting an agreement from Turkey to do such an operation. He failed to get agreement from the Spanish in part because he didn't want to upset the French by giving the Spanish Morocco which was then part of the French empire. In hindsight it would have been better for him to just give Spain Morocco, invade Turkey and weaponize WMDs like the victors did.

  3. Possibly. If the oil field in the Netherlands was discovered then it changes Hitler's strategies. He would have supported Moscow, he wouldn't have been as desperate to get the oil, thus not splitting Army Group South. So yeah, pretty big impact really.

  4. Germany had a land army, and land armies aren't much use against the English Channel. So they used it against Russia. Conquering Russia was a long time goal for Germany. So Hitler took the chance in 1941.

  5. I think his point might be there's no such thing as "revisionist history" because history is constantly being revised. It's like any other science. Problem with "history" is that it is not an exact science, it's more of a social science even. e.g. one historian might say Germany started WW2, Hitler wanted war and invaded Poland for fame and conquest, pointing to a certain OKW meeting. Whilst another historian would say Hitler didn't actually want to invade Poland but didn't have a choice in the face of Polish intransigence, British confrontationism and even had a mental breakdown on August 30th because he didn't want this situation.
