I hate Boris but the urge to spend, despite the Treasury, is actually a reasonable one. Most research shows that large developed economies have much more capacity to borrow for investment than they have to date. The country has tried low-spending, low-investment economics and it has left the economy anaemic, wages low and productivity in the toilet. I just wish that the government would raise taxes on the rich and large businesses because there is plenty of scope to do so and it would minimise the borrowing requirement.
