Here's the thing; most of the main terms that we use to describe politics differ in definition from country to country and from time period to time period. The terms conservative and liberal don't mean the same in the US as in the UK, for example, nor do they mean the same as they meant 100 years ago here in the US. I constantly see people describing themselves as liberal when they mean Classical Liberal, which is a lot closer to libertarianism than to the authoritarian, Big Government liberals today. To say that the terms moderate and centrist mean different things than they meant 50 years ago is saying nothing since most of the meanings of our political terms have changed.
