The early Christians started the idea that all people were equal in God's sight, whether Jew or gentile, man or woman, slave or free. Don't you realize what a revolutionary statement that was in those days? Would you really rather live in a Roman society? Or German-barbarian? Ooh, you probably would have been a slave, like most of the rest of us. “In Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free, nor male and female” (Galatians 3:28).
