Also, nationalized healthcare necessitates limitations on healthcare; for example, huge numbers of women in Canada die of breast cancer because they can get an appointment for the diagnosis but not for treatment. Someone I know was kicked in the head by his horse; the Canadian hospital wasn't going to treat him, they were going to send him home to die. His brother, a surgeon at that hospital, intervened on his behalf and got him treated, saving his life. In Ireland, hospitals have no air conditioning and the norm is 6 patients to a room; patients routinely die of thirst because they don't have enough nurses to care for the patients. In Oregon, when they went on universal healthcare statewide, the government started handing out suicide pills instead of treating cancer patients because treatment was too expensive. Wouldn't you want to negotiate up from that kind of basic care?
