  1. Zed Dez Regarding the "potato famine." Preach it! I almost can't contain myself when Queen Victoria is portrayed as such a nice woman! The current BBC production is especially egregious. In reality, she not only felt no sympathy for the Irish who were starving, she actively prevented other heads of state from sending food to them. The Irish could look at the nearby estates, laden with food crops due to be sold in England, but they could only lay down and starve to death within sight of the food, or if possible, flee the country. Arrrggghh!

  2. Zed Dez I took a walking tour of the New Orleans Garden District once, and the tour guide said pretty much the same thing about the Irish immigrants who came there during the potato "famine." He said they were treated worse than the blacks ever were. I'm perplexed by it. They couldn't catch a break.
