@francoiselemeur7325 I don't know about Vanessa, but JD's mother was legitimately a walking nightmare. His childhood was horrible because his mother was an abusive toxic narcissist. You should try walking in someone's shoes before passing judgment about things with your self-righteous nose in the air.

The state's cap on punitive damages is $350k, so the $5 million is down to $350k, for a total of $10,350,000. She was awarded $2 million. So JD nets $8,350,000.

@markmurex6559 No, they don't. I listened to the reading of the verdict by the judge, twice. The jury awarded JD $10 million and $5 million for punitive damages. The state has a cap of $350k on punitive, so the judge reduced punitive to $350k. That's $10,350,000 for Depp. AH was awarded $2 million. That leaves Depp a net of $8,350,000.

It doesn't make any sense because Depp didn't say it, his lawyer did. It isn't right to make one person liable for something someone else said. If anyone should be sued over it, it should have been the lawyer.

I liked him in Sleepy Hollow, Secret Window, Ninth Gate, The Astronaut's Wife, The Tourist, and Nick of Time. Not in that order. I haven't seen most of his other movies; they just aren't my cup of tea. That said, I almost didn't see The Tourist because I didn't think I would like it, but I thought it was terrific after all.

What's more disturbing is that they believe her even after she admitted it (the op ed, that she wrote it to destroy him because he's a powerful man and well liked) in the last testimony she gave. Even then, I've seen women say he was abusive. No, he got caught by a black widow spider and thrashed about in her net a bit. Who wouldn't? I did when I was in his position. I actually did worse, out of fear and desperation.

3 out of 4 lawyers that I've seen comment on that verdict said that Johnny could appeal it, because he didn't say it. It's wrong to sue one person for another person's statement.
