  1. People continue to make the same mistake: when you pass a law, it isn't just the current government who will be enforcing it. It'll be the "other guys" in a few years. You also have to remember that laws passed by Congress don't come and go, they're here for centuries. How will the person who's president in 2050 enforce it? When your children and grandchildren pay the price for party partisanship today? That's what happened with the Patriot Act and the NDAA; it was OK because a Republican was in office, but it set in place the machine for totalitarianism. The dominoes are in place; all it would take is one person willing to make that one little push.
