@PeruvianPotato The problem is that you believe the so-called projections. Here's the thing: even if the society is cut by 3/4, that's still a plentiful gene pool. Look what happened after the Black Plague in the 14th century in Europe. at least 1/3 of the population died, and in some places it was a lot more than that. The society didn't go away. In fact, it flourished. Serfdom disappeared because labor became a far more valued commodity. The middle class arose. The gene pool didn't suffer at all, even though they started out with a much smaller population. As for who will care for the elderly, well, as someone going into her 70th year, and knowing that, generally, the last ten years of our prolonged life span are spent in constant pain and suffering, how about we stop artificially prolonging life beyond our relatively happy, healthy years? When I get seriously ill, I plan to let nature take its course. Spending the last ten years of my life miserable, in pain, crippled, and alone doesn't sound appealing. Not to mention maybe with Alzheimer's or stuck in a nursing home where people now are neglected and abused by the staff. My mother-in-law had a heart valve replaced in her 80s, then spent the next ten years saying she wished she hadn't. No, thanks.
