  2. It astonishes me that the financial crisis that the west faces as a result of their sanctions against Russia should be a surprise. If the politicians had bothered to give two minutes thought to the obvious results of the sanctions, they would have known how counterproductive that move would be. If the politicians had any awareness of the functioning of the Russian economy, they would have known how well fortified that Russia was against sanctions, which was on purpose! Putin purposely made Russia almost entirely self-sufficient because of the round of sanctions against Russia in the early 2010s. And I have to say, it wouldn't have taken much more than watching the videos of ordinary citizens on YouTube to glean that information. I tried telling people at the start of the conflict that sanctions were going to turn out exactly as they have; tbh, I'm actually surprised at how everything has worked out the way I thought. I didn't dare think that I could possibly have been as obviously simple as it actually is. Of course, that makes it all the worse that our professional political class got it so very wrong.
