  1. India faces the same challenge as US - a largely out of control consumerist market, which is tilting the trade balance in favour of China. Without import barriers there is no possibility of allowing local manufacturing to catch up and grow. China had and still has a lot of import barriers only they don't publish it in the media like Trump, who seems to have a knack for inviting criticism whatever he does

  2. Good points. People in India have a mistaken notion that we can survive on services alone. However Engineering industries are the backbone of the economy. Many of our revenue earning sectors like IT and so on will get a shot in the arm if Engineering and R&D come out of India.
