In my humble opinion, modern Germans should not feel guilty for the deeds of their ancestors. Crimes were committed by completely different people, even if they spoke the same language. Another thing is important - absolutely all people (not only Germans) have to remember this tragedy and never repeat it. Nazism, fascism, nationalism, racism have no nationality. I think I can say things like russian. Because everyone is talking about the Holocaust (a monstrous crime), but there are few people in the world who remember about the 16 million Soviet civilians killed by the Nazis.
