  1. I guess they would not make it if it was useless = Meaning that they did not figure that there is a market for it. Just think about how many variations Porsche does of the 911 - People with enough money to buy expensive cars tends to have specific tastes and the details counts. The "race driver" will get a 911 GT RS or the GT3, while the guy who likes to sit on top and perhaps use his 911 for everyday use with all the gadgets and accessories buy the Turbo S in a full spec. With this GT they have removed a tiny little bit of the edge and made the cabin more luxurious with different leather options and some room for travel luggage (not much but just enough for the essentials - the rest will be provided at destination by a credit card). The glass roofs provide a more open and free feel - This car is not useless for a part of this segment - in fact one should consider British luxury car heritage and it makes good sense for McLaren to twist a little in this direction. Everything out there is not always total petrolhead - it is not always about being the most hardcore - People with big wallets differ and many like luxury - This GT version is appealing to these people and it is still more than fast enough and contra to your comment in fact even so slightly more useful than the S.
