@richardle3212 I'm a foreigner who has lived in Japan since 1988. I've also never had a racist incident here. Meanwhile, we have seen on the news people in America being attacked for being Asian due to the Covid affiliation.

@linkomania3600 Japan prefers it that way. Those who can't put in the effort are not worth the effort.

@thefuturetom If you're a permanent resident or a naturalised Japanese I doubt you would have had any of those issues. I've rented in 4 separate locations, Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, Kushiro, Chichibu and Higashimatsuyama with no issue whatsoever. My home loan was approved under ゴードン グラハム, all my credit cards were issued in Japan and are under Gordon Graham. My health insurance, car insurance, home insurance etc. all in my name...with no questions or hesitation in terms of having had them issued. Odd that in 30 years and 5 different addresses I've never had an issue. Perhaps having a teaching license issued from a Japanese university and permanent employment rather than having a temporary contract such as those of ALTs is what has made the difference, rather than the katakana in my name.

@thefuturetom A Lucky outlier in literally dozens of cases each and every time. I’m certain having permanent employment rather than the contract work which most foreigners in Japan have, has made the difference not the name

@alan_perez127 please don't come

@alan_perez127 I rather you would, too

Could you clarify what problems specifically having a name in katakana caused you in terms of paperwork and tax forms. I'm a permanent resident who has lived in Japan since 1988 and have never had any issues with tax forms, insurance forms etc. Tax forms have been made available to do online with both English and Japanese options for at least 10 years. I can't imagine what issues having a name in katakana would have caused. I'm not being contentious...I'd really like to know.

@jaydenderoo4413 Japan ranks 31st in the world for hours worked per annum. Overtime is excessive in sectors such as finance, marketing or agriculture, just as it is in those sectors throughout the world. The misconception about work in Japan is due to a focus on those sectors while ignoring the fact that the majority of Japanese work standard 40 hour work weeks. What is your field. Your work schedule will largely depend on your job.

@Dang3rMouSe What about Asians in America being targeted for violent attacks due to Covid's association with China?
