Never say never. I was homeless and destitute living on the streets of Toronto, Canada. I've now been in Japan for 30 years.

There is no afterlife. There is nothing to fear. It's exactly the same as before you were born.

@minesuke_mvsic sorry

@asianprince8718 It depends in which sector you work. There are many foreigners in finance who don't require Japanese, for example. If you are a labourer in agriculture, construction then it's also unnecessary. It's also not required to be an ALT (assistant language teacher) in Japan. That said, if you want to become a full-time licensed teacher then it's required as you'd need a license from a Japanese university (a license from a foreign country is non-transferrable). As all education courses are entirely in Japanese including written assignments you need to be not only fluent but literate. You also need to be literate in order to be hired and or advance in any white collar job, outside of sectors like finance which are highly international based.

@tsherwoodrzero I've lived in Japan for the past 30 years. We just say K car here. Kei is the romanized version used overseas. K stands for 経済 "keizai" meaning economy...So to be fully accurate, it's 経 カー

@atsukorichards1675 Cool. You were actually correct. I just verified it. I was told decades ago that it meant economical by a Japanese colleague. Thank YOU for the correction.

Most Japanese drive those little "bento-box" K cars.

@tsherwoodrzero There is no misconception about K cars in Japan. K cars are small economy cars. The little box cars 🚙 make up about 80% of cars on the roads in Japan. So it’d be incorrect to say it’s a misconception that most Japanese drive K cars. Of course there are car enthusiast who like cars such as those you mentioned. I drive a 1988 Nissan Laurel. There is a niche market for such cars. That said most people drive a K car. Many in big cities like Tokyo don’t drive.

@atsukorichards1675 It means economical, as having lower taxes and better fuel efficiency.
