@asdfghjjhgf Agreed, and most foreigners work as ALTs not full-time licensed teachers. The salary for a licensed full-time teacher is 3 times that of an ALT. You have to get your license from a Japanese university, however and that requires near-native Japanese proficiency in both reading AND writing, not just speaking as all courses are conducted entirely in Japanese. That said, it's worth the endevour to become a full-time teacher as it pays well and there are 40 paid holidays per annum.

You have to be able to read and write Japanese at a proficient level, proficient being native speaker high school level, for a lot of jobs, which is why most companies require that your resume be hand-written and why you have to fill out forms to prove you haven't had someone do the writing for you. If you want to work in Japan outside of English teaching jobs or manual labour jobs, you'd better learn to read and write. Just imagine not being able to read and write English and expecting to get a decent job in North America...Not gonna happen
